REASONS FOR THE INCREASE IN DRUG ADDICTION AMONG COLLEGE STUDENTS.

The upsurge in the rate college students indulge in drug abuse and addiction can be ascribed to a whole lots of factors which are but not limited to:

Academic Stress: When students are faced with the increased workloads of their coursework, internships, social responsibilities, part-time jobs, and a whole lot more of pressure that comes with being a college student, they feel that the best way to deal with their situation is to resort to drug as a way to soothe their emotion.

Excess Course-load: Most students opt to use stimulants like Adderall to improve their alertness and help keep them awake for a considerable length of time in order to study and complete their college assignments on the stipulated dates. In most cases, these drugs are taken as self-medication without the service of a professional. Due to lack of prescription, students tend to take these drugs more than is required

Youthful Curiosity: As it is customary for people when they get to a new environment, college students who are new to the school environment always try to explore different facets of life in its professional and personal realms. During the course of this adventure and experimentation, drug abuse and addiction may kick in.

Pressure from Peer:  Students who find themselves among new people and people of diverse family and social background are influenced by them in the quest to experiment with recreational and performance-boosting drugs.

These drugs may not necessarily be for a negative purpose but as pointed out earlier, when it becomes part of the students that the student cannot do without it, it becomes an addiction and addiction is highly not recommended for anyone no matter the circumstance.
